Creating the matte vases and bowls with tri-coloured cores is extremely challenging. These exceptional works are brought to life slowly, demanding sufficient time. Although the collection of matte vases and bowls is not limited, it remains exceedingly rare. Even the Moser masters, completely dedicated to their craft, are only able to create 12 pieces of each type every year. Such incredible beauty takes time. But the expectations and anticipation only deepen its value – just like the joy that’s felt when the collection finds its way into the hands of someone who truly appreciates it. The entire process of blowing the tri-coloured cores is quite literally alchemy, where the individual colours must meet each other at precisely the same moment. Cutting these vases is a test of strength and patience; the cutter has to hold in their hands a vase weighing as much as 12 kg.
The whole Aura Collection was inspired by the aurora borealis and the icy landscape of the north. And the glassmakers even smelted a brand-new colour for this collection of matte vases and bowls. It’s the result of combining traditional Moser recipes and bears the name of the gemstone that radiates warm, orange tones. Thus, the glassmakers further build upon the legacy of Leo Moser, creator of the famous Moser colours. Moser’s Creative Director selected cool tones for the collection of glossy Aura vases. “The north is associated with winter. And that coolness should be felt in the colours, which is why I chose green oceanite and blue,” explains Jan Plecháč. The cutters require an impeccable feel for the material when cutting these vases. That’s because they can’t see inside the closed, dark-blue neck, which forces them to accurately estimate the depth of the molten glass.
The Aura Collection also includes a drinkware set of clear crystal. The facet cutter acts as a sculptor when forming these pieces – as if carving away from a mass of ice, revealing the pure, elegant shape within.
