Sculpture in Crystal
The Aura vases are hand-blown into pearwood moulds. Just as the light transforms in the sky, so too does the molten glass in the master’s hands until a work of art is born, radiating both tranquility and immense exuberance. “The north is associated with winter and ice, and that coolness should be felt in the colours, which is why I chose green oceanite and blue; a combination quite exceptional for Moser,” explains Jan Plecháč, Creative Director of the Moser glassworks. The vases feature a distinct cut, which evokes the glimmering chill and sharp structure of ice. It’s here that the facet cutters become sculptors, chopping away pieces from a mass of ice, revealing its pure, elegant shape. They must possess great physical strength, but also a delicate touch for the material. The closed, dark neck of each vase restricts the cutters’ view inside, yet it’s absolutely crucial that they accurately estimate the depth of the molten glass.
