The Blues Vase

Limited series of "Blues" vases: A tribute to Roubíček by Moser Glassworks

UN General Council declared 2022 to be a United Nations International Year of Glass. During this special year, Moser Glassworks have prepared a treat for all glass lovers - a limited edition of the “Blues” vase. This unique vase was originally designed by the late René Roubíček, a renowned teacher, artist, and true legend of Czech glass design. This year, on the centenary of his birth, production of these vases in a color combination of eldor and oceanite is taking place. This limited edition will consist of only 50 “Blues” vases.

René Roubíček's work broke conventions from the very beginning and at the same time excelled in precision and attention to detail. He taught his students a new perspective on glass, and - through his works - he also influenced the international glassmaking community. He had won numerous awards throughout his life mainly thanks to his large-scale glass sculptures which were displayed all over the world, including Expo exhibitions in Brussels, Montreal, or Osaka.

The work of this artist is characterized by great respect for the glass itself, impressive optical effects, and clever incorporation of geometric shapes. The “Blues” vase impressively combines Roubíček’s artistic design with the craftsmanship of Karlovy Vary glassmakers. The result is an art piece that fuses beauty, movement, and energy of Moser crystal. Each of its prisms is cut to absolute perfection and its placement relative to others beautifully underlines the vase’s distinctive appearance.

The “Blues” vase, originally designed by the artist in 2013, is being made in a new color version this year to honor the centenary of its author's birth. "In the world of glass and glass making, René Roubíček was a visionary. A true symbol of timelessness, as well as diversity of shapes and colors," says Jan Plecháč, the new Art Director of Moser Glassworks, who also added: “By launching the re-edition of Roubíček’s unique Blues vase, we want to commemorate the amazing artistic qualities of his creations and incorporate them into the new artistic era of our glassworks.”

The first “Blues” vases can be purchased  online and more of these exquisite pieces will be gradually created during the year thanks to the skill of Moser glassmakers.
